POLAND Mostostal wins Szczecin castle contract

Public buildings
Mostostal Warszawa has been awarded a contract worth PLN 84.99 mln gross to renovate the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle [Zamek Książąt Pomorskich] in Szczecin, which will involve work on the terraces and the reconstruction of the northern wing.

The project will also include work on the castle’s northern escarpment, while the tunnels under it are also to be renovated. The northern wing, which has not been used since a pillar collapsed during reconstruction work in 2017, is also to be rebuilt.

The signing ceremony for the contract was attended by Olgierd Geblewicz, the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Anna Bańkowska, a member of the board of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Barbara Igielska, the director of the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle and Jorge Calabuig Ferre, the vice-president of the management board of Mostostal Warszawa.

The project that we will carry out is a significant engineering challenge. Particular attention will be paid to the complex geotechnical state and the difficult nature of construction work in this historic building. Thanks to the experience of our group of superb engineers at Mostostal Warszawa, we are able to effectively and efficiently carry out this type of task.
Jorge Calabuig Ferre, the vice-president of the management board of Mostostal Warszawa

The project should be completed within 30 months of the signing of the contract.

The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle was built n 1346 and rebuilt in the Mannerist style in 1573 and 1582. The Ducal Castle was the main seat of the House of Griffin [Gryfici] – the dynasty that ruled the Duchy of Pomerania from the 12th century until 1637. Over the centuries that followed, it was (in order) the seat of the Swedish institutions, followed by the Prussian and German, and finally (after 1945) the Polish institutions responsible for administering Pomerania. Currently, the castle is the seat of the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the Voivodeship Board, as well as the home of the Castle Opera [Opera na Zamku].
