The 21.3 ha grounds of the former KWK Powstańców Śląskich coalmine, with an area of will become part of the Katowice Special Economic Zone. “I can be confident about attracting investors here and offering them competitive deals. I hope that over the next two years the area will change beyond recognition – it will be fully occupied. But this is not all. There are plans to include four more sites in Bytom in the Katowice Special Economic Zone,” commented Jerzy Łoik, the vice-president of the board of the Katowice Special Economic Zone. As the investor behind the project, the town of Bytom has spent PLN 21.3 mln in it – almost PLN 15.8 mln of which was an EU subsidy under the Regional Operational Programme of the Silesian Province. The entire area is equipped with lighting, electrical and water-pipe networks, storm water drainage, sanitary and ICT networks while the existing gas pipe and heating network have been redeveloped,” says Józef Butrym, director of the Municipal Road and Bridge Authority in Bytom, which was the contractor of the project.
