Sephora launches latest logistics model
Warehouse & industrialThe centre, which is located in Segro Logistics Park Warsaw, Nadarzyn (former Tulipan Park Nadarzyn) will supply traditional shops as well as online orders. Through its logistics operator Logwin, the chain leases 3,200 sqm including some office space. Eventually the centre will supply not only the Polish market but also others in the region. So far the chain has based its logistics on direct deliveries. However, when the centre opened it also introduced a new storage and distribution model, which involves the automation of most of the process. The SAP system is being used to determine the type and number of products packaged, which are split by categories corresponding to the display of products in Sephora’s perfumeries.
“The new model makes it possible for us to shorten the period of deliveries to perfumeries, increase our flexibility in terms of reacting to consumer behaviour as well as increase the level of logistical service and minimise product shortages. A positive impact on the environment is also a significant effect – we can reduce the number of vehicles used by over 50 pct and the use of paper packaging by app. 80 pct as we replace it with recyclable packaging,” commented Adam Kołodziejczyk, the general director of Sephora Polska.
In the implementation of the new system, the company has been supported by Logwin, which was chosen in a tender. “We have been cooperating with Logwin’s team since 2013. The partner has proved to be effective in terms of the comprehensive servicing of internet shop customers. Now the company is servicing the entire distribution chain of Sephora in Poland. Of course, the two channels differ from each other in terms of the scale and the size of the individual orders: orders made by customers of an e-store average 2 or 3 items plus some samples. The orders for perfumeries contain a few hundred products. Thanks to all the operations gathered under one roof we have created a synergy effect: we have the same stock of products and components for both channels. We can use the time of our co-workers more effectively – the same people coordinate warehouse operations, stock and communication with trade partners and other teams of Sephora for both channels,” added Wojciech Gondek, the supply chain director of Sephora Polska.
