Closing Via Baltica

Infrastructure
POLAND The tendering process for the construction of the Łomża bypass is now underway. Two sections of the S61 with a combined length of over 20 km are to be built, to allow transit traffic the north and the west to avoid the town centre.

The sections on the Via Baltica route included in the tender are those between the Łomża South interchange and the Łomża West interchange (7,170 sqm) as well as between the Łomża West interchange to the Kolno interchange (12.99 km). The latter section will involve the construction of longest bridge in the Podlaskie province – a 1.2 km structure over the Narwia valley. Apart from the price criterion, the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) will also use the quality criteria including anti-skidding surfaces, the longitudinal profile of the surface, contractor’s staff, development of the original land and the contract completion date.

Last month the GDDKiA invited bids for the construction of 34.5 km of S61 expressway between the Kolno interchange and the Stawiska bypass and between the latter and Szczuczyn. Tenders for the second lane of the Szczuczyn bypass (6.5 km) and the Suwałki-Budzisko section (24.2 km) are close to completion. Contracts for a total of almost 65 km of S61 expressway are to be awarded in Podlaskie, while two other tenders, for roads between Ostrów Mazowiecki and the Śniadowo interchange and between Śniadowo and Łomża South, which will eventually complete the S61 in the Podlaskie and Mazowieckie provinces, are under preparation.
