Foster designs Budapest tower

Office & mixed-use development
HUNGARY Hungarian multinational oil and gas company MOL Group is planning to relocate its corporate headquarters to MOL Campus, an 83,000 sqm complex to be built at the banks of Danube in the southern part of Budapest, close to its current HQ building.

The completion of the 120m tower and podium (gallery), designed by Foster+Partners, has been scheduled for 2021. Budapest will thus become the second city in the CEE region (excluding Russia) with a building designed by the British studio, after Warsaw, where the Metropolitan Office and Varso Tower (the latter currently under construction) have been designed by the studio. “As we see the nature of the workplace changing into a more collaborative vision, we have combined two buildings – a tower and a podium – into a singular form, bound by nature. As the tower and the podium start to become one element, there is a sense of connectivity throughout the office space, with garden spaces linking each of the floors together,” explained Foster+Partners senior executive partner Nigel Dancey. The Hungarian partner of the UK-based studio will be FintaStudio. Both LEED and BREEAM certification applications will be made for the complex.

According to MOL’s official information, it will accommodate up to 2,500 employees. Currently MOL’s headquarters is scattered throughout five districts in Budapest, in buildings mostly constructed during the 1970s.

“The structure will be Central Europe’s most innovative workspace and will help attract the talent of the future. MOL intends to build a headquarters without compromising on design, construction, technology or sustainability,” commented Zsolt Hernádi, the CEO of MOL Group.
