Castorama reaches 80

Retail & leisure
POLAND Castorama Polska has just opened its 80th store. Its other stores are undergoing modernisation to enable the chain to expand its range of products and introduce more shopping services.

The company is also launching further environmental protection and educational activities for younger generations. This year, the company has opened four new stores in Poland, the most recent being in Ciechanów, which opened its doors to customers at the end of November. Its new stores and those refurbished in recent months feature an updated format, involving investment in such environmentally-friendly systems as LED lighting.

One of the brand’s flagship projects this year has been the development of its digital channel with an improved Click & Collect service (‘order online and collect in the store’), the delivery time of which only takes up to two hours. New mobile applications for Android and iOS have also been introduced over the last few years with access to the current product range and promotions from any mobile device, making placing orders easier and faster. A pilot in-store navigation system is being launched in the store in Poznań’s Komorniki district – a system that uses communication between the lighting in the store and a smartphone with the app to find products on the shelves more efficiently.

TrafiCar and CityBee services and apps have also been introduced for the customers who want pick up their products themselves at a convenient time – any holder of category B licence can use this to transport even large purchases.

“We will accelerate the roll-out of this scheme even more in the next few months,” announced Sebastien Krysiak, the CEO of Castorama Polska.

Castorama is also initiating other schemes for the benefit of local communities, including educational projects for youngsters (Majsterkowo), of the promotion of green activities (Nasza Sfera) and charity campaigns in cooperation with non-governmental organisations to improve the living conditions of the poorest sections of society. Castorama’s latest initiative, Mali Recyklerzy, will be introduced in a dozen or so primary schools. Its goal is to support environmental education and demonstrate that even a small effort for the planet has a significant effect. Under this campaign, students will collect used batteries and then take part in DIY workshops. Another initiative, ‘Flowers for Electronic Waste’ [Kwiaty za Elektrograty], involves the company collecting almost two hundred tonnes of electro-waste from customers every year while offering flower seedlings in exchange. Castorama is also involved in environmental protection through smog reduction measures in cooperation with local authorities, one example of which is the ‘Partnership for the Climate’ [Partnerstwo dla Klimatu].

Castorama Polska opened its first store in 1997. It currently employs almost 12,000 people. The Polish subsidiary is part of the Kingfisher group, which has almost 1,200 stores in ten European countries.
