Poland Foksal townhouses finally restored to former glory

Residential
Ghelamco has brought back into use two historic townhouses at ul. Foksal 13/15 in central Warsaw after extensive renovation and restoration work.

The project, which has taken four years, was led by restoration specialist Anna Rostkowska of ProArt, interior designer Eric Kuster of Metropolitan Luxury as well as Sud Architectes, which was responsible for the work on the façades, all under the supervision of the city’s buildings conservation department. The houses were originally built in 1895–1898 according to a design by Artur Otton Spitzbarth. Ghelamco bought the properties in 2005.

Keys to some of the apartments have already been handed over to the first residents and a sales office has opened in the courtyard of ul. Foksal 15.

Along with the renovation of the buildings’ colourful façades, the stucco work in the interiors has been restored, while white marble and oak floors have been laid, recreating the original flooring. The staircases feature hand-made balustrades. A number of original murals were uncovered during the restoration. The renovated buildings now contain a gym, a recreation area and panoramic terraces on the upper floors. A car park for around 60 vehicles has been built under the houses.

“This project has been closely followed not only by history and architecture lovers, but also by many citizens of Warsaw, who since their childhood have regarded these townhouses as an inseparable feature of ul. Foksal. Our buildings have been part of this city for over 120 years. These architectural gems are a constant reminder of the city’s history. Now they will be homes for present and future generations, combining preserved historical features with contemporary luxury facilities,” comments Jeroen van der Toolen, the managing director of Ghelamco for Central and Eastern Europe.

The town houses together contain 55 apartments ranging from 47 sqm to 260 sqm, along with exclusive commercial premises on the ground floor. Apartments in the southern part of the building come with private gardens with terraces. The prices of the apartments start at PLN 25,000 per sqm going up to PLN 40,000 per sqm. A concierge service has also been made available to residents.
