POLAND Metropol buys portfolio of five Atrium centres

Investment & finance
Metropol Group has acquired a portfolio of five Polish convenience shopping centres from Atrium European Real Estate for an undisclosed sum.

The Atrium centres, which are located in Gdynia, Olkusz, Radom, Świętochłowice and Siemianowice, have a combined area of more than 45,000 sqm gla. Atrium has been divesting its regional assets across Poland to focus instead on large shopping centres in prime locations, such as Atrium Promenada in Warsaw.

In the real estate market there are always opportunities. At the moment, as the market reels from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have found convenience centres in the heart of small cities to be a very attractive investment. We are currently looking for other centres to add to our portfolio.
Amit Mor, the CEO of Metropol Group

Metropol Group was provided with transaction, negotiation, tax and financial documentation advice by Greenberg Traurig for this acquisition. Atrium was advised by Avison Young, JLL and Dentons.

The shopping portfolio acquisition closed by our real estate team was probably the first retail transaction in these challenging market conditions, following the lifting of economic restrictions stemming from the coronavirus lockdown. It confirms investors’ growing interest in transactions of this type. The popularity of convenience shopping centres is also being driven by the changing preferences of consumers, who are now tending to choose convenience shopping centres located closer to their homes.
Dominik Rafałko, a local partner of Greenberg Traurig
