ROMANIA Scallier to develop Romanian retail park chain

Retail & leisure
Polish company Scallier has announced plans to develop a chain of six retail parks in Romania.

The six Funshop parks, which will have a combined leasable area of 40,000 sqm, are to be located in Moșnița Nouă (near Timișoara), Hunedoara, Roșiorii de Vede, Focșani, Vaslui and Vladimirescu (near Arad). All the projects should be completed in 2022.

One characteristic feature of these projects will be the diverse food & beverages offer expected by Romanian customers. This, among other things, distinguishes Polish parks from those implemented in Romania. We decided to implement projects in Romania due to how similar this market is to the Polish market, as well as the special moment in time that this country is currently going through. Romania is where Poland was about ten years ago. Its citizens are increasingly affluent but the range of modern retail space is very limited. In many cities with tens of thousands of people it isn’t present at all. E-commerce and complementary projects are growing dynamically, meeting the expectations of consumers and making it possible to shop quickly and conveniently. We also actively encourage all tenants who want to develop their sales networks in Romania. Our ambition is to create an environment that is very well suited to the needs and expectations of the inhabitants of small and medium-sized Romanian cities and the requirements of international retail chains.
Wojciech Jurga, the managing partner at Scallier responsible for the company’s expansion in Romania

Scallier is already in advanced negotiations with Polish retail chains regarding the lease of the space in the parks.

The Poznań-based company was founded in 2011 and specialises in the investment management of retail parks, regional shopping centres, shopping arcades and free-standing retail facilities.
