POLAND Fort Polska to transform Szczecin station

Residential
Fort Polska has been chosen to design PFR Nieruchomości’s first residential estate in Szczecin, which will contain 800 apartments.

The studio, which has previously worked on such projects as the Mieczysława Karłowicz Philharmonia in Szczecin, Norblin Factory in Warsaw, Galeria Katowicka and the Jordanki Cultural and Concert Centre in Toruń, has been tasked with the preparation of the documentation for the estate as well as the design for the restoration and adaptation of the former Pomorzany freight station. The 6 ha site bounded by ul. Starkiewicza, ul. Grudziądzka and ul. Generalska in central Szczecin is owned by the Polish state railway operator PKP. The station itself dates back to the end of the 19th century.

This is our latest joint venture with PKP SA. We are already designing about 400 apartments on ul. Białowieża on the banks of the river Odra in Wrocław. Now the time has come for Szczecin. I am convinced that thanks to the excellent location and this experienced design team, a project will be created that will combine social, revitalisation and city-forming functions. I am glad that we will restore this forgotten and neglected part of the city to local residents.
Wojciech Caruk, the CEO of PFR Nieruchomości

First of all, this is a very complex project due to the historic buildings as well as the site and the immediate vicinity of railway infrastructure. The project is therefore a challenge, but of a type with which we have extensive experience. Due to the current situation on the market, there are unfortunately fewer residential projects, which is why this cooperation is a great honour for us. The team consists of over 60 people, including architects, constructors and installation designers. We are very happy to be involved in such a large, interesting and long-term project.
Jakub Nowakowski, the commercial director of Fort Polska

The estate is likely to comprise nine buildings containing rental apartments, as well as recreation and service areas.
