A sporting end to the summer

Two exceptional events took place in the second week of September around Olsztyn. Eurobuild held its tenth golf tournament for the real estate and construction market, and accompanied it for the first time with its Tennis Tournament, which has taken place in each of the last six years

"It is hard to hit the hole and even harder to find the golf ball later, which, if you are unlucky, can lie several hundred metres further in the grass. It is even worse if you have to look for it in the rushes or in the water," explained Peter Bronson, a professional golfer who demonstrated his pro skills while teaching beginners at Eurobuild's 10th Golf Tournament. It was not only the players on the golf course at Naterki who were up against each other, but at the same time other competitors were fighting it out in the tennis competition a couple of miles away in Olsztyn. To establish a new tradition we have decided to combine these two long-running events to make the property market associate the beginning of September with sport and good fun. Unfortunately the weather was not good for the tournament players, who were forced to take shelter every now and again. However, this did not hinder the sporting spirit and a great atmosphere was generated by all the participants of both events. The competitive spirit seemed to inspire Marek Gaik, who came first in the gross stroke play classification. He was joined on the podium by Romuald Centkowski and Sławomir Hruboń. Manfred Schatovich finished ahead of the field in the net stroke play category (hcp 0-24), with the next best places going to Marcin Dudziński and Rafał Zambrzycki. Meanwhile, the winner of the net stroke play section (hcp 24.1, 1-36) was Mieczysław Piwowar. The runners-up places on the podium were taken by Tomasz Paziewski and Janusz Gutowski, as the tournament continued to be dominated by the men. The fairer sex also failed to get a look in during the more amateur contests - the two competitions which took place in the annual Golf Academy. Paweł Ciach managed to win the closest to the hole trophy, while the longest shot was taken by Grzegorz Iwański (let's hope he had no trouble finding the golf ball later on). The wooden spoon, i.e. the Piga Mingi (Swahili for 'most strokes') prize went to Michał Kozłowski.
In the tennis tournament some new sports stars were born. The best female competitor was Beata Wilecka, closely followed by Magda Cieliczko. On the men's podium it was Marcin Kamrowski, Tomasz Kapłun and Michał Małaszyński who basked in the glory.
As has become the tradition, the winners received their trophies in the beautifully-situated Przystań restaurant on the shores of lake Ukiel. Champagne from bottles opened by the sabrage technique (with a sabre) awaited the winners and guests, as well as a magnificent fireworks display on the lake. More entertainment for the guests was served up by the Magnifique Dancers group, who invited everyone to learn how to jive 40s style. This brief dancing course proved that there are actually a few people on the real estate market with a hidden talent for dancing - but some of this talent is more hidden than others. The group also treated us throughout the evening with carnival and burlesque routines. Those who had not had enough of sporting activities could take part in the 'golf on the water' competition on the lakeside. Włodzimierz Smolnicki won this rather testing event requiring extreme focus and good night vision.
This was the last item on the sports agenda of this year's event. So there is nothing left for us to do but to wait until next year and have an equally good time at the next tournament to be held by Eurobuild CEE.
