Hotel Praha demolition provokes fury

The hotel, in Hanspaulka (Prague 6), is to be replaced with a primary and secondary school and a park for students of the nearby Open Gate School campus, which is owned by a foundation set up by PPF. The decision is controversial and has provoked a protest campaign to save what some regard as a modernist masterpiece. Local authorities have still to approve the demolition, which if granted would be completed by next spring. Hotel Praha has a built-up area of 9,800 sqm, with 136 rooms (including a 400 sqm presidential suite), conference halls, restaurants and a swimming pool.
