POLAND Monopolis and Granaria triumph at MIPIM Awards

Events
Two Polish developments are among the twelve winners at the MIPIM Awards 2020, which were presented in Paris on September 15th.

Monopolis in Łódź was selected as the world’s best mixed-use project of the year. The almost 30,000 sqm office, museum, gallery and services complex is being developed by Virako according to designs by Grupa 5 Architekci led by Rafał Grzelewski. The project has involved the redevelopment of the former Monopol Wódczany vodka distillery and the addition of new buildings.

The award for best urban project went to Granaria (also known as Granary Island and Wyspa Spichrzów) in Gdańsk, developed by Immobel and Multibud with UBM as the hotel investor. The design work for phase one was carried out by RKW Architektur of Düsseldorf and Gdynia-based Kwadrat Studio Architektoniczne, while Warsaw studio Mąka Sojka Architekci is responsible for the design of phase two. The ​​55,000 sqm riverfront project has involved the restoration of historic granaries, the redevelopment of the marina, the reconstruction of Stągiewny bridge into a drawbridge, together with contemporary residential and hotel development and public space.

The Irina Viner-Usmanova Rhythmic Gymnastics Palace in Moscow, developed by USM Development and designed by sTPO Pride, was chosen as the best cultural and sports infrastructure project.

Elektrownia Powiśle in Warsaw, developed by Tristan Capital Partners and White Star Real Estate and designed by the APA Wojciechowski studio, was also shortlisted in the best office project category.

Altogether 47 projects from across the world were shortlisted in twelve categories.
