HUNGARY Waltzing in Matild once again

The Matild Palace hotel has reopened in Budapest after five years of extensive renovations. The building, which is owned by Özyer Group, is to be run by Marriott International as a Luxury Collection Hotel.

The refurbishment work was led by designer Maria Vafiadis, the founder of MKV Design, and local architects Péter Dajka and Puhl Antal, resulting in a 130-guestroom luxury hotel.

The baroque Matild Palace was built 120 years ago during the Belle Époque era under the patronage of Her Imperial and Royal Highness Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Matild Palace Erzsébet híd, acting as a gateway to the Pest side of the city from the Elisabeth Bridge.

Matild Palace offers 111 guestrooms and 19 suites, together with the Swan Spa with a salt and steam room and a fully equipped state-of-the-art gym. In addition there will be the Spago by Wolfgang Puck restaurant, The Duchess rooftop bar (which opens next month), a secret liquor library, as well as Matild Café and Cabaret. These will also offer year-round outdoor dining on the first ‘gastro street’ in Budapest.

Prices for the rooms begin at EUR 450 per night including breakfast.x
