They have been deployed only in some of the online giant’s most advanced US facilities so far. Manufactured by Kiva Systems (now Amazon Robotics), a company acquired by Amazon in 2012, the battery-powered Kiva bots are designed to quickly localize and pick-up portable storage units (cartons, pallets, movable shelves etc.) that contain products needed for fulfilling orders and bring them to an employee who sorts and ships them. The solution is believed to save Amazon as much as 50 pct of storage space.
