Different asphalts are to be tested in a PLN 4 mln research programme

POLAND General contractor Budimex, together with the Warsaw University of Technology is developing a self-repairing road surface with a PLN 2.5 mln grant from the National Centre for Research and Development. The research is to be completed at the end of December 2022.
The Sehepa research programme is to cost PLN 4 mln and aims to improve the durability of road surfaces. Microcapsules are added to the asphalt that break open when micro-cracks appear to seal the damage and prevent larger cracks from forming as a result of heavy vehicular traffic and extreme temperature changes. Microcapsules with various additives are to be tested during the research and the tests will not just take place in the laboratory but test track is also to be laid to test the efficacy
