Budimex rebuilds Gdynia rail

Infrastructure
Budimex is building a railway junction at the Port of Gdynia.

The general contractor is responsible for over 30 pct of all the work involved in the project. On completion, long trains of up to 740m will be served by the port. Budimex is to rebuild the port's railway station as well as the surrounding railway system.

Since 2019 Budimex has already laid 8,000 sleepers and 3,000m of track. It has also built 146 pylons for overhead cables and created 50 km of tunnelling for underground cables. Currently work is underway on the tunnel walls under the track and building a bridge over them. Budimex has also begun work on four new buildings.

Currently we've completed the shell of the future points control building as well as the Local Control Centre. We are now working on the facades and the flat roofs as well as the internal fitings. We've also started work on modernising one of the three working points control buildings
Artur Popko, deputy CEO and director of operations at Budimex.

As part of the work, Budimex has also dismantled 110 structures on the site. It is to build 115 km of electrified track to the gates of the port. Additionally, 13 km of roads are to be rebuilt as well as a railway bridge and two crossings. Two footbridges are also to be built over the track. Completion of the project is planned for 2021 and the total investment costs will come to around PLN 1.5 bln. The project is partially financed from EU funds.
