Building permit application for Okęcie terminal 2 to go ahead

Once a special ordinance for the construction of Terminal 2 at Warsaw's Okęcie airport, issued by the governor of the Mazowieckie province, has been published in an official journal on August 4th, the general contractor for the project, the Budimex-Ferrovial-Estudio Lamela consortium, can apply for the building permit, then begin work. The plot for the terminal will be 52 sqkm, which is slightly larger than in the original plans.

Grupa Atlas opens plant in Russia

Grupa Atlas, the Polish producer of building chemicals, has opened a USD 5 mln factory in Russia, in the town of Dubna, near Moscow. To begin with, the plant will produce one line of 1,000 tonnes for every twenty four hours activity. Last year the company sold more than 32,000 tonnes of its produce to Russia.

Merger planned between Polimex Cekop and Mostostal Siedlce

A meeting between the executive boards of the construction firms Polimex Cekop and Mostostal Siedlce was held on July 21st, at which they discussed the possible merger of the two companies. It is hoped that an agreed plan from this can be adopted by mid-August. Just before however, lawyers from White & Case will examine the legal status of the two firms and an application for an expert from the courts will be sent off. This expert will supervise the merger. Both companies are confident that it can be finalized by the end of the year.

Swedish NCC wins road building contract

NCC Roads, part of NCC AB, has been awarded a road construction contract worth EUR 5.465 mln, in southern Poland, by the National Road Authority. The project, funded by the EU, will consist of five kilometres of renovation, the widening of an artery road and construction of a new junction. This is the first time NCC has been successful at a tender organized by the National Road Authority.

High-speed tram line commissioned

The Kraków Development Agency (Agencja Rozwoju Miasta Krakowa) has signed an agreement with the Turkish Guris Insaat ve Muhendislik, a developer who will complete the last stretch of the high-speed tram line in the city.
The remaining section which will cover 3.7 km, linking rondo Grzegórzeckie with ul. Kamienna, involves converting rondo Mogielnickiego and building a tunnel in the city centre.
Work is to begin in Jan 2004 and end in April 2006. The total value of the investment, funded by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, has been estimated at EUR 33.7 mln.
