The chair that’s not there

EUROPE Students of the Estonian Academy of Arts have designed a set of impossible chairs. The challenge was to build a chair with the absolute minimum of materials.
Every year during the annual workshops students test out their designs and come crashing down on the floor and the painful experience provides useful feedback in refining the designs. Turnover among engineers has reached 42 pct, according to Randstad’s latest report, 'Labour Market in the Construction Sector: Trends, Challenges and Recruitment Strategies for 2026'. Demographic changes, rising employee expectations and the sector’s shift towards Construction 4.0 are adding to the pressure.

W. P. Carey has completed a EUR 52 mln sale-leaseback of two industrial properties in Wałcz and Rybnik, Poland, used by Purmo Group. Totalling approximately 83,400 sqm, the properties have been leased back to Purmo under a 20-year triple-net agreement with annual CPI-linked rent increases.

Poland Kraków offices split between centre and outskirts

Kraków’s office market saw a sharp drop in tenant activity in the first half of 2026, while the gap between central and non-central locations continued to widen. Gross take-up fell 58 pct year on year to 73,000 sqm, while net take-up dropped 27 pct to 36,000 sqm, according to Axi Immo’s latest report.

Developers are becoming more confident about the residential market after a strong July, according to the latest Developer Sentiment Index from housing portal Tabelaofert. The Sales Momentum Change Index rose to 0.53 in August, its highest level this year, while 57.5 pct of developers surveyed now expect sales to increase over the coming months.
