Skanska to build medical faculty

Public buildings
POLAND Skanska is to construct a new medical faculty for the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (UKSW).

The Collegium Medicum UKSW building is to be built on the campus at ul. Wóycickiego 1/3. The work carried out by Skanska will include not only the construction of a thew facility, but also the demolition of an existing lecture hall, the installation of utilities and the purchase and delivery of all the necessary materials and equipment.

Poznań studio GPVT Pracownia Architektoniczna is responsible for the design of the 3,816 sqm building, which will have three above-ground storeys and one underground. It will be characterised by a simple and modern shape and an eye-catching façade with a subdued colour scheme, designed to fit into the surrounding landscape. It will contain teaching rooms, specialised labs for the training of future doctors and rooms for medical simulations. Skanska will also be installing advanced audiovisual systems. The building will also feature extensive photovoltaic installations. Students should be able to have their first classes in the faculty in Q3 or Q4 2021.

In 2013 Skanska built an education and interdisciplinary research centre for the university.

“The construction of the Collegium Medicum facility will assist our efforts in establishing a faculty of medicine at UKSW. It is very important to us to provide the best infrastructural facilities along with specialised scientific staff,” explains Fr. prof. Stanisław Dziekoński, the rector of UKSW.
