POLAND Skanska to build Poznań children’s ward

Public buildings
Skanska has been awarded a PLN 26 mln gross contract by the K. Marcinkowski Medical University in Poznań for the construction of a new wing of the Karol Jonscher Clinic. The paediatric ward should be ready in 2022.

This is Skanska’s latest contract with the university, having already completed, among others, a medical simulation centre and student halls on ul. Rokietnickiej.

I am glad that we will be able to provide better conditions for hospitalisation, diagnostics and therapy for sick children, their parents and the entire medical team
Paweł Machnicki, the director of general construction for the Poznań-Wrocław area at Skanska

Skanska is to enter the construction site within 14 days of the signing of the contract. A building with three above-ground storeys and one underground will be ready at the turn of 2020 and 2021. After all the work is completed in 2022, a new wing of the hospital – a children’s cancer ward – will increase the total usable area of the hospital by almost 3,400 sqm. Part of the work will be carried out partly on the existing clinic, to allow the hospital to continue admitting and treating patients, including children suffering from coronavirus.

The interior of the ward will be arranged so that the children feel as comfortable as possible. On the walls of the corridors, Skanska, according to the architectural plans, will hang paintings featuring natural, urban and marine motifs, while an aquarium will also be installed.

The two existing cancer and paediatric haematology departments (III and V) will move to the new hospital building. It will also have pathomorphological, haematological immunology and cytostatic drug labs as well as a cancer outpatient clinic. There will also be a general anaesthesia room, a neonatal care ward, a laser therapy room, psychological support rooms, a rehabilitation room, children’s common rooms, social amenities for parents and carers, and a seminar room.
