LATVIA Corner House in Riga up for sale

Public buildings
VNĪ, the Latvian state real estate company, is putting up for sale Tetera House (or the Corner House) in Riga.

The starting price for the 8,000 sqm building at Brīvības ielā 61 will be EUR 4.247 mln. An electronic auction is to take place between August 13th and September 14th.

The art nouveau-style building requires extensive renovations, but the conditions of the sale stipulate that the buyer should retain its historic façade and follow the instructions of the cultural monument inspector for any renovation work. The sections of the building that house the Museum of the Cheka in Latvia (700 sqm) should continue to be used as such after the purchase.

More details of the auction can be found here.

Tetera Namu was built in 1912. It originally functioned as a merchant house and contained shops and galleries. It also housed the Imperial Russian Society of Music and later in the interwar period was used by government departments. During the Soviet period it was the local headquarters of the security services (Cheka).
