Sekyra Group has agreed with Prague’s authorities to contribute CZK 560 mln to the development of a new school and park on Rohanský ostrov (Rohan Island). The agreement unblocks the developer’s Rohan City new district project, which began last year.

Sekyra Group has agreed with Prague city council that it will provide the city with a voluntary contribution of CZK 560 mln (app. EUR 23 mln), a substantial proportion of which will go towards the construction of the park and new school for more than 800 children. Sekyra is currently developing its Rohan City district on the brownfield site on the island. Around 11,000 people will eventually live and work in Rohan City. The total investment costs of the project, which has been in the planning stage for over 14 years, are estimated at more than CZK 18 bln.

We welcome the establishment of clear and transparent rules of cooperation between the city and private investors, which will allow the construction work to be unblocked. The approval of the change to the zoning plan is an important milestone in the revitalisation of Rohan Island. Today, the location represents the largest unused area in the neighbourhood of the historical core of Prague. Without this change, it would not be possible to carry out the full-scale development of the location as envisaged by the approved urban planning study.

Sekyra started construction work on Rohan City last autumn. The project will involve the development of 380,000 sqm of mostly residential, but also office, retail, service and leisure space. This will include residential towers and Sekyra’s new headquarter building designed by Eva Jiřičná, as well as a 1 km-long promenade. Parks and public space will make up half of Rohan City. The entire project is scheduled for completion by 2033.

In the first stage CZK 2.5 bln is to be invested in two residential projects with 220 apartments – Diamanty Karlín and Riviera Karlín – and two office buildings. The second stage will involve the development of 500 apartments and three office buildings. Along with Eva Jiřičná, AI-Design and Jan Gehl’s Gehl Architects studio, the other architectural studios involved in the project include EBM Expert, Jakub Cigler architekti, Schindler Seko architekti, Atelier bod architekti, Lodge, A.D.N.S. Architekti and Qarta Architektura.
