Somewhere to charge up and sit down
TechnologyThe colourful cushion provides comfortable seating, while the round Hi-Macs solid acrylic platform in the centre of this furniture design provides the opportunity to recharge mobile devices by placing them in three areas marked by circles.
Working with the furniture manufacturer Royal Ahrend, Dutch designer Basten Leijh has created a designer piece of furniture that unites comfort and technology and is particularly suited to lounges and waiting rooms. The cushioning and fabric are combined in a unique way with the resistant natural acrylic, which is nonporous and stain- and scratch-resistant. Batteries are recharged wirelessly using the latest induction technology, which can now be used for many different types of devices, in any kind of environment. Unlike previous wireless charging platforms were clearly recognisable, the Zens system that is seamlessly integrated into the surface of the Recharged seating material.
“Tests have revealed that our charging station functions especially well in combination with Hi-Macs. The material creates an ideal connection between the transmitter and a receiver such as a mobile phone,” said Erik Plasmans, the CEO of Zens. Individual points of light or coloured highlights can be used to mark out the charging station as desired.
The Recharged seat not only supplies energy, but also emits a red light from below, giving a pleasant atmosphere to the entire room. It is ideal for waiting rooms and lobbies in hotels, airports, offices or doctors’ surgeries.
The seat was produced by Royal Ahrend. It was designed by Basten Leijh. There was a Kvadrat fabric and Hi-Macs Alpine White by LG Hausys material used for the seat, while the wireless charger was produced by Zens.
