A total of 195,000 tonnes of on-board freight was handled at Polish airports in 2024 – a record volume of 117,000 tonnes and a 13 pct increase on the previous year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (Urząd Lotnictwa Cywilnego – ULC), which oversees aviation in Poland. This is much in line with the 13.2 pct annual growth in freight across the European airport network last year and slightly above the increase of 12.4 pct in EU+ countries (the EU plus Norway and Switzerland), but below that of non-EU+ countries (18.4 pct) – according to Airports Council International Europe. The five leading European cargo airports in 2024 were Istanbul (1.97 mln tonnes), Frankfurt (1.95 mln), Paris Charles de Gaulle (1.87 mln), London Heathrow (1.52 mln) and Amsterdam Schiphol (1.49 mln).
