As I said during the Eurobuild Awards ceremony, I was lucky to live in a good time for the residential sector in Poland. I was educated in Warsaw – my whole professional life has been here, apart from maybe some other assignments, including even in Moscow once for the World Bank.
For people in Warsaw, both those already living in the city or moving there, housing has been a problem for as long as I can remember. In the 1960s, living conditions were really difficult. The first apartment I lived in with my parents and brother was just a living room and a kitchen, while we also had to use a common toilet in the building. My father eventually built a little loo in the kitchen corner, but there was no bathroom and only cold water. When I was young, I also trained as a 1500m runner – a miler.
