LPP cares for workers in Bengali

Corporate social responsibility
BENGAL/POLAND LPP has decided to sign the Transition Accord under the Accord initiative. Its main goal will be to prepare the Bengali government to supervise and inspect factories and to ensure that measures taken to permanently improve working conditions are implemented.
“The new agreement is primarily to prepare the Bengali government for local institutions to take over the experience and competences of Accord. This will allow independent inspections and, eventually result in full control being taken over further improvements in factory working conditions. The new agreement is also a guarantee for us that the efforts taken so far will have lasting results and the standards we expect from our suppliers will be maintained,” explains Anna Miazga, the CSR coordinator at LPP. An important element of the new Accord is also the assurance of appropriate procedures to pay out compensation to workers in the event of the relocation of a factory or its closure resulting from the failure to meet the standards of an inspection. LPP is the only Polish company among the 66 companies from the clothing industry to sign the agreement. The Accord has so far included training sessions in 64 out of the 142 factories that produce clothing for the Gdańsk-based company. In total, 72,000 employees are to take part with 21,000 having already completed the full training programme. More factories will be covered by the Safety Committee Training programme under the new agreement. “86 pct of health and safety violations were eliminated by the end of 2017 as a result of inspections carried out in all the production plants that work with LPP. This percentage is higher than the average for all the factories inspected by Accord,” claims the company.
