Poland Retailers boycott Russian goods

Corporate social responsibility
Numerous retail chains in Poland have announced that they will no longer be stocking Russian or Belarussian goods in protest of the war in Ukraine.

So far the boycott has been joined by such chains as Aldi, Rossmann, Netto, Polomarket, Topaz, Stokrotka, Żabka and Frisco.

Aldi’s announcement reads:

Aldi is announcing the withdrawal from sale of all the Russian goods that were on offer at the beginning of the year. Furthermore, the discount chain will not be selling goods from Russia or Belarus... We will keep you informed of other initiatives in support of Ukrainian workers and refugees. In turn, Rossmann writes: We in no way wish to support producers from Russia whose taxes strengthen the Russian budget and may be used for purposes related to the attack on Ukraine. For this reason, we have decided to immediately remove 52 products directly produced in Russia from the shelves of our drugstore.

Mirosław Wawryszczuk, board member and director of sales at Stokrotka stated:

As a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine, we have taken the decision to withdraw the goods of Russian and Belarussian origin available for sale in our store. Those goods that are already in our stores or warehouses, such as hygiene products for children and adults, will be given to charities that support Ukraine.

Additionally, convenience chain Żabka has released this statement:

Due to the current situation economic levers have become crucial to the international community in opposing Russian aggression against Ukraine. With this knowledge, we have taken the decision to cancel our orders from the territories of the Russian Federation and Belarus. As a consequence, all marketing related to these goods will also be withdrawn.

Other companies to join the boycott include Biedronka, Carrefour, Netto, Polo, Topaz i Polomarket, as well as DIY chain Hipper.pl, drugstores Primavera Parfum, Kontigo and Super-Pharm.and online stores Frisco.pl and Lisek.app,
