THE WORLD Timberland implements the Path of Service – a strategy of corporate social responsibility. The company has set specific goals to achieve by 2020.
In terms of the product, the brand wants to use fully recyclable, renewable or organic ingredients such as organic cotton or top-class leather from environmentally responsible tanneries. In the production of clothing and footwear the company wants to reduce use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs) by 100 pct as well as limit the use of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the production of shoes to less than 42 grams in one pair. In terms of environmental impact the company wants to plant 10 mln trees around the world and it plans to reduce energy consumption by 10 pct as well as acquire 50 pct of it from renewable sources. As part of the Zero Waste movement, Timberland plans to raise the rate of the company's waste which can be recovered or recycled to 95 pct. In terms of social involvement, the brand wants to encourage 80 pct of its employees to participate in volunteering and increase their involvement in social campaigns, which there should be 11,000 of by 2020. Since 2001 Timberland has planted 8.7 mln trees worldwide. Employees of the company worked as volunteers for more than 1 mln hours and 233 mln plastic bottles got a new life in the brand's products. Timberland Polska, which is owned by the Marketing Investment Group, also gets involved in these activities. Since 2005 18 cyclical charity events took place as part of fully paid employee volunteering, which corresponds to more than 15,000 hours of work for the society and the environment.
