Poland EPP meets 2030 emissions reduction targets ahead of schedule

The company has also adopted a climate transition plan that sets out how it will reduce emissions across individual properties. Decarbonisation will be taken into account when planning refurbishments and new projects, as well as in financing and risk management.

We see the transition plan as a management tool. It means that decarbonisation is considered when we plan new projects, manage properties, arrange financing and assess risks. Climate targets are therefore not a separate area of our work, but one of the factors in decisions about individual properties.

The plan covers improving energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy generation, upgrading building systems and equipment, working with tenants and partners, and making buildings more resilient to climate change. The plan also takes into account the revised EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

The measures are already being implemented. At King Cross Marcelin shopping centre in Poznań, energy consumption in common areas has fallen by around 20 pct. Solar panels are currently being installed at 13 EPP shopping centres, with a planned combined capacity of more than 7.1 MWp.

EPP’s next target is to cut its emissions by 90 pct by 2050 compared with 2019 levels and achieve net-zero emissions across its entire value chain.
