Central Station enters monumental era

Warsaw Central Station came into operation in 1975 as the city’s main intercity railway station. The complex, which includes the main hall, underground platforms, passageways and galleries, was designed by architects Arseniusz Romanowicz and Piotr Szymaniak. It also featured systems and devices that were novel in Poland at the time, such as escalators and automatic doors. The station was renovated in 2010 in time for the Euro 2012 football championships.
