CZECH REPUBLIC Modular R&D centre by Chybik+Kristof

Architecture and urban planning
A modular construction research centre has been completed for Koma Modular in Vizovice, in the Czech Republic’s eastern Zlín region. The design of the facility is the work of Prague-based architectural studio Chybik+Kristof.

The 170 sqm research centre is to be used as a think-tank to challenge and expand existing notions of modular construction. It is situated at the edge of Koma’s own plant in the town. This is the studio’s third modular project in its partnership with the company and is based on the concept of rotated containers functioning as columns, enabling the building to be further expanded according to modular architecture concepts. The columns are positioned in between the containers and the roof, while the vast window surfaces draw in an abundance of light, keeping the workplace open and connected to the exterior space.

As the emerging trajectory for modular architecture and technologies continue to advance, we have positioned our capabilities in this area at the forefront of innovation to create promising solutions towards a future that we believe lies in modular architecture.
Chybik+Kristof

The one-storey building also creates a large semi-public square through which passers-by can view the factory from the street level, providing an accessible, barrier-free area.
