POLAND Twenty Polish projects up for Mies van der Rohe Award

Twenty Polish projects have been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award for 2022.

A total of 449 architectural projects across the continent completed between October 2018 and October 2020 have been included in the first list for the award.

The Polish architectural projects nominated for the award fall into the collective housing, culture, and urban projects categories and are as follows:

  • The Płocka, Młynów and Księcia Janusza stations on the Warsaw Metro’s second line by Kazimierski i Ryba Biuro Projektów and Łukasz Górzyński
  • The redevelopment of the PKS coach station in Kielce by Kamiński Bojarowicz Architekci
  • The Dom dla Bezdomnych accommodation for the homeless in Jankowice by XYstudio
  • The mixed-use redevelopment of the former Elektrowni Powiśle power plant in Warsaw by APA Wojciechowski
  • The Convent of the Franciscan Hospitaller Sisters in Dobrzeń Wielki by PORT
  • The Żółty Słonik pre-school in Suwałki by Xystudio
  • The Nowe Żerniki new district of Wrocław by more than 40 architectural studios
  • The Riverview residential estate in Gdańsk by APA Wojciechowski
  • The Bobrowisko nature reserve in Stary Sącz by 55Architekci
  • The Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej local activity centre in Wrocław by Ch+ Architekci
  • The Centrum Aktywności Lokalnej local activity centre in Rybnik by MWArchitekci
  • The Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek by Krzysztof Jaraczewski, Radosław Kacprzak and PIG Architekci
  • The Zodiak architectural pavilion in Warsaw by Kalata Architekci
  • The Nowy Werdon residential estate in Ruda Śląska by Biuro Projektowe Małeccy
  • The P4 business complex in Warsaw by Jems Architekci
  • The Activity Zone in Chorzów by SLAS
  • The Great Synagogue Remembrance Park in Oświęcim by NArchitektura
  • Głuchołazy Library by Antoni Domicz
  • The Nowy Nikiszowiec residential estate in Katowice by 22Architekci
  • The revitalisation of the Przedmieście Oławskie inner-city district of Wrocław by (among others) Ch+ Architekci, Vertigo Margareta Jarczewska and A+F Projektowanie Przestrzeni

A second list, compiled of projects completed between November 2020 and April 2021, is to be published later in the year, with the reason for the two lists being the postponement of the biennial awards in 2021 due to pandemic related issues. The ceremony is now scheduled to take place in May 2022.
