Romania/Poland Globalworth extends student competition

Architecture and urban planning
Globalworth Foundation and the Igloo – Habitat and Architecture Association have extended the deadline extension for the ‘2031 NOW_our cities in 10 years’ student competition to February 1st 2022.

The entries will be put before the jury from the 3rd of February to the 3rd of March 2022. The competition is open to students in architecture, city planning and design from Poland and Romania. The prizes amount to EUR 11,000 with the winners granted the opportunity to present their projects at the High Tech Learning Center within the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest. Entrants are to develop an urban vision in which spaces can act as generators of better places for both direct users and the nearby community. The projects should cover an area of 2.031 ha and should include mixed-use buildings, community spaces, parks and infrastructure, for a design that can be built in 2031. The jury will include architects and urban planners and professors as well as the organisers' representatives; namely: Bruno Andreșoiu, Arjan Dingsté, Krzysztof Ingarden, Dimitris Pergamalis, Jakub Szczęsny, and Andrei Șerbescu. Prizes:

• 1st Prize: EUR 5,000

• 2nd Prize: EUR 3,000

• 3rd Prize: EUR 1,500

• 3 honourable mentions of EUR 500 each

The results will be announced on 10th March 2022.

According to “Office Occupier – Office Market in Regions”, a report published by Newmark Polska, total office take-up in 2023 in the largest Polish regional cities surpassed 741,300 sqm - an increase of almost 19 pct year-on-year and 7 pct from the pre-pandemic 2019 peak. Issues related to ESG, functionality improvements, efficient office space management and optimisation of lease costs have filtered through into the vocabulary and strategies of tenants and developers alike.
