The facility has already reached full operational capacity. There is a state-of-the-art sorter, capable of scanning 45,000 shipments per hour, 44 unloading lines serving over 100 Polish and foreign destinations. Advanced systems of 1,500 different types of sensors and 800 cameras, located along the entire length of the sorting belt, will make it possible to track a parcel from the moment it enters the sorter until it is loaded onto the car. Algorithms will also direct the reception of line transport, i.e. lorries with parcels. The car park at the International Logistics Centre will accommodate 230 cars and the unit will have space for 600 swap bodies.
E-commerce is one of the most important pillars of DHL Group's strategy, which is why we are continuously investing in this sector. The establishment of the International Logistics Centre in Poland is an important element, supporting the expansion and modernisation of our European delivery network. The opening of the unit is also an important step in the implementation of our growth strategy in the crossborder services market. This investment is not only a significant milestone for DHL, but also opens the door to broader prospects for our e-commerce customers, enabling them to succeed in European markets.
Pablo Ciano, CEO DHL e-Commerce
The establishment of the facility is related to DHL Parcel's expansion strategy on the cross-border services market. Currently, the company delivers to 27 countries in the European Union and the UK. The implementation of this investment will improve operational efficiency, competitiveness and increase the capacity of DHL Parcel's network in western Poland, which is particularly important from the perspective of proximity to the German market. Initially, the International Logistics Centre will handle domestic shipments and those destined for the German market.
The International Logistics Centre is the most technologically and environmentally advanced. Crossborder is one of the fastest growing trade segments and we are consistently strengthening our position in this area of logistics. In the next phase, we plan to launch connections to the Benelux, Iberia and Scandinavia. We are also preparing solutions for the southern European destinations. The Czech and Slovakian markets are also extremely promising.
Agnieszka Świerszcz, CEO DHL Parcel Polska
A photovoltaic farm has been built at the International Logistics Centre, which will satisfy one third of the facility's energy needs. The unit will derive the rest from purchased green energy. The facility has been equipped with electric terminal tractors and there are also around 40 charging points for cars, VANs and trucks on the site. With the use of electric heavy-duty vehicles, DHL is getting closer to its goal of zero emissions during logistics operations.
