Rumia Multiport - a factory outlet and shopping centre under one roof
Rumia Multiport Retail Centre, a mixed use project, is underway in the Northern outskirts of the Tri-City district. After several years of design, construction and other required permits have now been obtained and it is now possible to proceed to the next stage of the investment, that is leasing retail space
Directly on the route of national road 6 in Rumia, Rumia Multiport combines the various aspects of a shopping centre with a modern factory outlet centre. As well as a big hypermarket, specialist shops and a shopping gallery, the first factory outlet centre in Northern Poland will be built with a total area of 63,000 sqm. More than 2,700 parking spaces will be available to customers. CHR the daughter company of the construction firm Michel Bau GmbH&Co KG (which belongs to a group of construction firms in northern Germany, in Neumünster and Schleswig-Holstein), is in charge of the design and construction of Rumia Multiport. Michel Bau has to date designed, constructed and leased, numerous shopping centres with hypermarkets, building materials stores and retail outlets in northern Germany. The investor Reinhard Michel explains the unique Rumia Multiport concept: "The fact that renowned brands will be offered at the factory outlet centre at reduced prices, means that customers will not only be able to buy them at a good price but will also be able to find the best bargains. At the classical shopping centre, customers may comfortably and quickly use numerous services and do inexpensive shopping in carefully selected specialised shops or at the big hypermarket. In this way we are creating a very attractive combination of both concepts." The benefits from this combination will be obvious to both customers and tenants. The Factory Outlet Centre will be used by well known companies as a sort of safety valve, enabling them to sell surplus goods, end-of-line products and goods remaining in their warehouses. The designer label goods, offered at prices reduced by anything from 30 to 70%, and specialist shops, will enrich and supplement each other. "After the introduction of classical shopping centres to Poland, which turned out to be to a large extent successful and after subsequent introduction of factory outlet centres, the time has come to think of the next step. We believe this will allow us to combine the advantages of both concepts, and we will set new standards for shopping centres in attracting and keeping customers," says Reinhard Michel. The location is supposed to guarantee the success of the concept: "Apart from an excellent location near national road 6 and very good access by railway and bus, Rumia Multiport will benefit from Tri-City residents' purchasing power, which is much higher than the national average, as well as of the region's tourist potential." The architects of Rumia Multiport have created a unique design. Inspired by the neighbouring Gdynia port, they borrowed ideas from marine architecture. The Centre's entrances have been marked with illustrations of huge sails, which will be badges of its identity. "There is great interest from potential tenants. We are planning to start construction in Spring 2004", announced Reinhard Michel. "The Centre's opening is scheduled for Spring 2005."
