Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Inżynieryjnych - Holding (Engineering Works Company - Holding) announced its financial results for the year 2001. The company, part of the Mostostal Zabrze - Holding group, and who specialises in road construction, earned PLN 9.3 mln net last year. The most important contracts carried out by PRInż last year included construction of the southern ring road in Kraków, part of the A4 motorway, and construction of an intersection at ul. Chorzowska in Katowice (southern Poland). Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Inżynieryjnych's investor comprises 10 companies specialising in the construction of roads and bridges, engineering and the raw materials / resources industry.

Echo choose Hochtief

Hochtief Polska has been appointed general contractor for the expansion of Echo Investment's retail scheme in Piła, western Poland.
The centre signed a Nomi supermarket a few months ago, which is now being joined by a 1,700 sqm Albert supermarket run by the Ahold chain. Construction is set to start in the middle of May with delivery slated for early autumn. Once completed the centre will have 6,500 sqm available for lease.

 

Act gets first reading in Parliament

MPs read the first draft of the Construction Payment Guarantees Act on the 24th May. If adopted this Act would enable contractors to demand bank guarantees as security against payment of invoices. 'Eurobuild Poland' printed an article on this topic in April this year.
The draft was submitted by MPs of the SLD party. Among its authors were Krajowy Związek Pracodawców Budownictwa (State Association of Construction Employers) and Związek Zawodowy 'Budowlani' ('Budowlani' Trade Union).

Budimex-Ferrovial Agroman submit cheapest offer

Polish daily 'Rzeczpospolita' published unofficial information that the Budimex-Ferrovial Agroman consortium submitted the cheapest offer to the Warsaw Okęcie airport tender for a general contractor. The sum was reportedly USD 198.9 mln.
The most expensive submission was by Strabag for USD 279.9 mln. Hochtief, the third company participating in the tender, placed an offer for USD 262.8 mln. According to other sources the general contractor who will take on the expansion of Warsaw's Okęcie airport is to be announced in 10-11 weeks.

New roundabout in Bielsko-Biała

A 2-level road intersection comprising a tunnel and roundabout is to be built adjoining the Bielsko-Biała ring road in southern Poland. The investment, whose cost is estimated at PLN 60 mln, is being financed by city resources and a loan from EBI.
The general contractor is yet to be announced; although it is rumoured the tender will be held soon.

New roof tile factory

Wiekor Pokrycia Dachowe (Wiekor Roof Covering Materials) opened its third ceramic roof tile production plant in Kunice near Legnica, western Poland. The scheme cost over PLN 150 mln. The factory has 90 employees and will reportedly produce 18 mln roof tiles and roofing accessories this year.
Wiekor is owned by the Koramic Building Products consortium, which manages 269 factories with over 18,000 employees in Europe. Koramic is listed on the Brussles stock exchange. The company's 2001 turnover amounted to EUR 1.3 bln.

Changes at Mostostal Warszawa and Dromex

Krzysztof Szamałek has replaced Neil Blafour as president of Mostostal Warszawa.
The former president has taken a position as a member of the Supervisory Board of the company. His successor announced more involvement by Mostostal in tenders related to environment protection (Krzysztof Szamałek formerly worked at the Ministry of Environment Protection as a vice-minister).
Dariusz Słotwiński has resigned as president of Dromex and has been replaced by Stefan Bekir Assanowicz, formerly of Budimex. Assanowicz hopes to conclude a merger between the companies by autumn.  (Source: "Puls Biznesu")

 

"Polityka's" ranking of construction companies

The Polish weekly 'Polityka' published a list ranking the 500 biggest companies in Poland. Based on the findings, we present the following list of the biggest construction companies and building materials manufacturers operating in the country.

A4 licence in question

Stalexport may lose its licence to operate the A4 motorway on the Kraków to Katowice stretch. 'Gazeta Wyborcza' reported in mid May that Stalexport still had 90 days to fulfil all the conditions of the licence. Shareholders of the company include Bank PKO BP (13.96 %) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (29.61 %).
