Helios in new destinations

Retail & leisure
POLAND Cinema chain Helios is recently pursuing a very active development policy. The company will open multiplex cinemas in a number of shopping centres including Blue City in Warsaw, Galeria Vivo! in Stalowa Wola, Galeria Libero in Katowice and Galeria Tomaszów in Tomaszów Mazowiecki.

Newcomer to Warsaw

The first Helios cinema in the capital city is to be opened in the Blue City shopping centre in H2 2017. The contract concerning the matter was signed by management boards of Helios and Blue City. The eight-screen multiplex will have 1,500 seats. Viewers will also be able to use cinema cafes and bars. “Helios has been consistently implementing its strategy which involves the development of the largest chain of multiplexes in Poland. We currently put an emphasis on strengthening our presence in the main Polish conurbations and the opening of our cinema in Warsaw will be of key importance for the development of the chain and recognisability of the Helios brand. At the same time we have been implementing our plan which involves the opening of new cinemas in smaller towns that did not have cinemas of this class until now. Of course it is not only the number but also the quality of our cinemas that determines the image of the entire chain, that is why each new multiplex has top quality equipment,” says Tomasz Jagiełło, president of the board at the chain of Helios cinemas. Helios currently has 37 cinemas which offer a total of 206 screens and 43,000 seats.

Stalowa Wola next year

A Helios cinema is to start its first screenings of films in the Vivo! shopping centre in Stalowa Wola in the summer of 2017. The cinema will be built with a total area of more than 1,000 sqm and will include four air-conditioned rooms with a total of 660 seats. It will adjoin the wall currently located at the main entrance to the centre and will have its own separate entrance. “We are very pleased that Vivo! has invited us to join the centre’s tenants in Stalowa Wola. Vivo! is undoubtedly the best and most attractive location for our cinema in the town. We hope for a warm welcome for our four-screen cinema from the residents of Stalowa Wola. The Helios network comprises cinemas equipped with the latest systems providing unique picture quality and excellent sound. Customers will also be able to use the café and cinema bar,” said Tomasz Jagiełło, the president of the board of Helios.

Return to Katowice

Helios will also occupy an area of nearly 3,000 sqm in the Galeria Libero shopping centre, which Echo Investment is planning to build on ul. Tadeusza Kościuszki in Katowice. Residents of the southern part of the city have been waiting for a modern multi-screen cinema for some time, after Helios closed its cinema on ul. Uniwersytecka more than two years ago. “Our cinemas represent the highest standard: world class equipment and technology. Our cinema in Libero will feature a Dolby Atmos sound system and as far as 3D technology is concerned it will use the DepthQ system, for which the viewer buys their own glasses and can use them during future visits to our cinema,” explains Tomasz Jagiełło, the president of the board of Helios. This is the latest contract to have been signed by Echo Investment and Helios. The companies have been cooperating with each other for many years. Helios cinemas operate in Galeria Echo in Kielce, Galeria Olimpia in Bełchatów, Outlet Park Szczecin, Galeria Sudecka in Jelenia Góra and Galeria Amber in Kalisz.

Tomaszów with four screens

Helios has also decided to open its cinema in Galeria Tomaszów, which is being developed in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The four-screen cinema, which should open by the end of this year, will cover an area of 1,000 sqm. “The signing of the contract with the cinema operator is of particular importance in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, because we know how much local residents are looking forward to it. When developing our projects we take into consideration not only our own business aims and market standards in terms of the tenant mix, but we also try to be sensitive to the needs of our future customers, as we want to meet their expectations for a shopping centre in their town. We are very glad that we have managed to fulfil one of the dreams of the residents of Tomaszów and we invite you to the future showings of films,” explained Tomasz Szewczyk, the president of the board of Acteeum Central Europe, which is the co-owner of the project. Galeria Tomaszów, which has an area of 18,000 sqm, will comprise app. 75 units, and a supermarket of more than 2,300 sqm. The shopping centre owned by Acteeum Group and Rockcastle Global Real Estate Company Limited is due to be opened in autumn.
