I want to ride my bicycle!

Events
For the eighth time, more than 100 people took to Warsaw’s cycle lanes to help popularise the most environmentally friendly means of transport – the push bike

This year’s Suits on Bikes, as with previous events, was held under the patronage of the Embassy of The Netherlands, a country that was one of the first to appreciate and promote the use of the bicycle for more than just recreation. The aim of the initiative is to invite those who work in the real estate sector to engage in discussions about sustainable urban infrastructure and development. The bicycle is the most reliable, healthy and friendly means of transport – and Warsaw has been investing in cycling infrastructure for many years, having built up a network of cycle lanes and related facilities. Investors, too, are paying attention to the need to provide amenities specifically for employees who have chosen their bikes as their main method of commuting. Cloakrooms, showers and bicycle parking areas have already become a fixture in modern office buildings as standard.

And so, all the real estate players and invited guests gathered on time at 4.30 pm on July 4th at three starting points: ul. Chmielna 108 (CFE’s building), ul. Spokojna 5 (Portico), and ul. Przyokopowa 33 (Evolution). The unpredictable weather actually didn’t rain on their parade when it came to the participants’ good humour. We took the city by storm, stopping along the way at a series of interesting buildings, the relevant features of which were expanded upon with a great deal of passion and knowledge by our guides from the Zielone Mazowsze association. Those in need of some repairs and technical tweaking were able to receive expert assistance from The Bike Company’s mobile bicycle service.

“Suits on Bikes 2024 was a wonderful experience. It made me realise once again that with sustainable mobility we can reduce both our carbon emissions and the amount of fine particulates in the urban atmosphere. Although I was one of the only people wearing a suit, and considering that work clothing conventions are in a state of transition, I think the event needs to stick to this wonderful name. It absolutely confirms my opinion that the bicycle can be used by everybody for commuting,” enthused Taco Stoppels, the deputy ambassador of the Kingdom of The Netherlands to Poland.

This suited peloton (suited in name only, because its original office dress code is increasingly giving way to the kind of casual dress that is favoured by cycling enthusiasts) ended at the finish line near Poniatowski Bridge. At the MOSiR Poranki i Wieczory café bar on the banks of the Vistula, we were able to rest, refuel and make new friends and business contacts in a wonderful atmosphere. Once again, we had a great time promoting healthy lifestyles as well as combining business with pleasure and active leisure.

For their support in organising the event, we would very much like to thank our sponsors: CFE, Evolution, Portico Property Management and Arcadis (the sponsor of the safe ride); our partners the Green Mazovia Association, Nextbike and The Bike Company; as well as our prize sponsor, Trigar.

We hope to see you all again on Warsaw’s cycle lanes next year!
