BPO floods into Łódź

The study points to the significantly improved infrastructure, the quality of life in the region and the emerging high-class office space as being the major factors behind this growth. There has been a 20 pct increase in the amount of such office stock in the last year alone.

The research reveals that half the people employed in the BPO/SSC sector are less than 30 years old. Professional careers in Poland usually start at the age of 24–25, thus emphasising the young age structure of the sector. This is primarily due to the relatively young age of the BPO/SSC sector itself, but also due to the much greater proportion of younger people with foreign language skills. The number of people competent in foreign languages ​​has been growing while the shared services sector has established itself, and so a continuing increase is expected in the number of employees in this sector, according to the Antal report.

Financial factors are still the strongest argument attracting people to work in the sector. On average the increase in wages in the BPO/SSC sector in Łódź has amounted to 15 pct p.a. over the last three years. The largest increases – up to 30 pct – took place ​​customer services. The rates are particularly influenced by knowledge of niche foreign languages. Another fact worth pointing out is that salary increases are generally limited to 10 pct for leadership and managerial positions. In addition to attractive financial terms, candidates should expect additional remuneration dependent on their language skills and an extensive package of non-salary benefits.
