POLAND Winning for families on the beach
EventsA record 64 teams competed in this year’s tournament, which was held on August 1st at the Monta Beach Volley Club in Warsaw – and the winner was D&D Devco Duszak, which overcame MLP Group in the final, while Skanska’s team once again achieved a very creditable third place.
The competition itself was followed by the evening party, during which, in addition to all the entertainment, 2,000 guests were given the chance to bid for some unique items during the charity auction. In total, over PLN 800,000 was raised, which will go towards the construction of Poland’s third Dom Ronalda McDonalda (Ronald McDonald House) – this time at the country’s largest children’s hospital, Instytucja Pomnik-Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka in Warsaw’s Międzylesie district.
I would like to congratulate you all on behalf of the entire JLL team and give a big thank you to the winners of the tournament, as well as all everyone who was involved in this event. Once again, we have proven that we can achieve so much as an industry. The PLN 800,000 raised by the guests of the event will contribute to the construction of the Ronald McDonald House at the IPCZD hospital in Międzylesie, to make it easier for the families of children from across Poland to be together during their long-term treatment at this unique hospital.
Mateusz Bonca, the CEO of JLL in Poland
The first Ronald McDonald House was built in 2015 at the University Children's Hospital of Kraków, while the second has been serving the patients and their families of the Children's Clinical Hospital of the University of Warsaw (UCK WUM) since June 2021. In 2023 alone, they provided over 22,000 overnight stays for families whose children had to travel far from home to receive the best medical care. The latest House, currently being built at IPCZD in Warsaw, will be open to the entire families of oncology, haematology and neonatology patients as well as those whose treatment requires time and patience.
By building and operating Ronald McDonald Houses near the largest children’s hospitals in the country, we can provide entire families of hospitalised children with that sense of security and strength that comes from being together. The buildings are designed to house families who have had to leave their own homes due to their children’s treatment. Each home provides a place where a normal family life can be lived with parents, siblings and grandparents – places where you can live, cook, do the laundry, study, work and be physically close to the child being treated. The construction of the third House will improve the situation of many families from all over Poland whose children are being treated in the IPCZD hospital. We are grateful to the entire real estate sector as well as each company and person who took part in this year's tournament, for supporting our mission to help the families of hospitalised children to be together.
Katarzyna Rodziewicz, the president of Fundacja Ronalda McDonalda
The families of young hospital patients often find themselves unable to live near their place of treatment. A report by JLL, which puts the Ronald McDonald Houses in the context of the situation on the housing and hotel market in Poland, reveals that within a radius of 1 km of the main hospitals in the six major cities in Poland, there are only 15 studio apartments available for long-term rental and an average of three hotels, so the options for short-term accommodation are very limited. Ronald McDonald Houses respond directly to this need by providing long-term, free accommodation in a homely environment for the entire family.
