New contracts for Skanska

POLAND Dolne Miasto in Gdańsk, the Pod Dębami marketplace in Słubice, the extension of the Oborniki Centrum Rekreacji recreational centre, the Innovational Medicine Forum in the Oncology Centre in Bydgoszcz and the Kronopol factory... the list is long and all the projects are to be developed by Skanska.

Starting with the first item on the list: the company is to redevelop the Dolne Miasto section of Gdańsk’s Śródmieście central district. The ceremonial signing of the contract was attended by Paweł Adamowicz, the mayor of Gdańsk, Włodzimierz Bartosiewicz, the head of the Directorate of Development of the City of Gdańsk and Paweł Piński, the director of the project team at Skanska. “As the general contractor we will mostly be responsible for the redevelopment of the roads, the underground infrastructure, the development of the area and the redevelopment of some elements of the residential buildings,” says Anna Bystry, a project manager at Skanska. The streets to be redeveloped include ul. Łąkowa, ul. Wróbla, ul. Dolna, ul. Śluza, ul. Kieturakisa, ul. Kurza and some sections of ul. Radna and ul. Toruńska. The contract is worth PLN 19.8 mln net, with the work already begun and due to be completed by the end of June 2015.

More contracts on the way
As for item number two on the list: the company has also been contracted by the Recreation and Sport Centre in Słubice (SOSIR) to construct the Pod Dębami marketplace on ul. Sportowa in Słubice (Lubuskie province). Around 130 small retail and service units are to be located in the one-storey building with a total area of 2,000 sqm. The contract is worth PLN 4.5 mln. Skanska has also signed a contract with the water and sewage corporation of Oborniki [Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji w Obornikach] to extend the Oborniki Centrum Rekreacji recreational centre in the town. Construction work on the PLN 4.6 mln contract has begun and should be completed by the end of August. Skanska will also be extending the Innovational Medicine Forum [Innowacyjne Forum Medyczne] for the Oncology Centre in Bydgoszcz in a contract worth app. PLN 21.7 mln net. The centre’s radiotherapy unit is to be enlarged with two additional floors. One of the new storeys will include technical rooms, while the other will have laboratories, offices and a lecture hall for almost 200 people. The work is to be completed in October 2015. The Kronopol factory in Żary is another that is to be extended, with a lumber storage area of more than 30,000 sqm in a contract worth PLN 13.5 mln. The work started at the beginning of April and will take five months. In Łódź Skanska has laid the foundation stone for the Wojewódzkie Centrum Biznesu i Przedsiębiorczości – the new headquarters of the Łódź Regional Development Agency (ŁARR) on ul. Narutowicza. The office building is being developed in the grounds of a historic factory and villa. The existing complex, which is to be extended and redeveloped, will house the offices of a number of organisations that support new businesses in the region – including Łódzki Inkubator Przedsiębiorczości [The Łódź Business Incubator]. “We have already completed the construction work on the warehouse building and are preparing for the finishing work. Construction work is still in progress on the factory building, where we have built three reinforced concrete ceilings. We have built the first floor ceiling in the connecting building and work is in progress on the ceiling of the second floor. Next we will start work on the upward extension of the second floor. In March, we are going to start renovation work on the factory’s façade. The demolition work on the villa has now been finished. The renovation and interior design work is to be completed when we have agreed on the design with the city’s conservation Officer. We are currently renovating the historic woodwork and have started working on the electrical and sanitary fittings in all the facilities,” explained Skanska project manager Adam Motyl. The project is to be completed by the end of 2014 in an investment of PLN 7.7 mln net.

From retail to education
Skanska is also to redevelop the offices of the Lubuskie Province Governor’s Office in Gorzów at a net cost of PLN 4.6 mln, as well as building a retail centre in Swarzędz (Wielkopolski province) for PLN 8.5 mln. The first contract includes the modernisation of the basement, the ground floor and the first floor of the office building. The building will have a new façade, with the plasterwork, the wall and floor cladding, the windows and doors, as well as the woodwork and metalwork all to be replaced. The building’s internal installations are also to be modernised. The second contract is for the construction of a one-storey retail building with an area of 3,700 sqm on ul. Graniczna in Swarzędz. The planned opening of the centre is to take place before Christmas. The investor behind this project is Inwestpoz. Finally, Skanska has been appointed by Kielce Technology Park to redevelop the Wyższa Szkoła Umiejętności college in Kielce in a contract worth almost PLN 17.7 mln. The building, at ul. Olszewskiego 6, is to be modernised to meet the needs of the Technology Incubators Complex within the Kielce Technology Park. An extra storey is to be added to the building increasing its area to nearly 5,000 sqm. The work should be completed in June 2015.
