Personages and personalities

Editorial
I am getting on a plane in a few hours. The destination: Spain.

With what do I associate the country of wine, corrida, beaches and beautiful historic monuments? The first thing I thought of was the real estate market, the infamous collapse of the economy and footage circulating on the internet of desolate residential estates. Is it worth looking for them, or perhaps better to visit Granada, Ronda and Cádiz...?

I think that projects across which the wind blows clouds of dust and flurries of dry leaves will only be a contingency plan (provided that the top ten most beautiful places in Andalucía live up to their billing in the guide books). Coming back to my first association and Spanish investors – I remember the hot flushes on our cheeks as they participated in auctions for plots of land in Poland just a few years ago (and there were more than a few of these). The Irish had made their entrance here a little earlier and also made bold purchases. If somebody had asked me then who was doing something unique in our field, who was the personality that had stood out on the market over the previous year, I would provide a few foreign names without any hesitation. And what is it like nowadays? Rajska-Wolińska, Sekuła, Bienias, Wojciechowski, Krych, Świątkowski and Frnka are the people who the editorial team considered to be candidates to the ‘Personality of the Year’ award. The majority of them are our fellow countrymen and women, with the head of HB Reavis for Poland being the one exception, even though I think we could paraphrase one saying and say that Poles and Slovaks are two brothers. We are keeping our fingers crossed for all the nominees because this is all the editorial team can do (the ‘Business is people’ article covers the candidates and the justification for their nominations). The outcome is in the hands of the jury and the guests gathered together at the Eurobuild Awards Gala on December 3rd.The event is now knocking at the door, but before it takes place we will have one more issue – November – of the magazine for you.
