A day to cry or laugh?

Editorial
Acouple of days ago on March 23rd, we celebrated "Elevator Day", which commemorates the launch of the first passenger lift in 1857. But the calendar contains a few more unusual days like this. On September 25th builders have their own holiday, while the first day of July is World Architecture Day.

The latter is celebrated by architects in Poland with the toast: "Na zdrowie na budowie!" or "Alright on the building site!" (Hmm... maybe this one would be better for the builders.) ?Historic Building Conservation Day falls ?on August 11th. Many of these days are counted among the more popular commemorations (Women's Day, St Patrick's Day, St Valentine's Day); and then there are the less popular ones (Workplace Napping Day, Cheap Wine Day). The reason why I am mentioning them is that at the time of writing this I am eagerly awaiting the upcoming Real Estate Agents' Day on March 30th. The date relates to the sale of Alaska by Russia to the US in 1867. ?It seems that in the context of the changes proposed by the Polish government to deregulate access to the profession, on this particular holiday some real estate agents will be crying into their beers, while some will be laughing. In most countries in this part of Europe, real estate agents and property managers have not been required to hold licences. In Poland they have... up until now. But for how much longer? The only people who might know are the politicians, so in this issue we discuss the threats posed by the new system to these businesses, as well as the potential advantages. For now I would like, ?if I may, to recommend some of the ?holidays coming up in April: Transport and Road Workers' Day, Chocolate Day and, of course... Easter.
