Movement and gatherings ban tightened further

Coronavirus
POLAND The Polish government has introduced a new directive clarifying the restrictions on movement as part of its measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The obligation to stay at home will not extend to commuting or to necessary daily needs. According to the latest directive of the Minister of Health, freedom of movement will be restricted with the exception of everyday living, health and professional purposes until April 11th inclusive. The new restrictions do not apply to:

  • Commuting. If you are an employee, run your own business or farm, you have the right to travel to your place of work. You also have the right to buy goods and services related to your professional activities
  • Volunteering. Those working in the fight against the virus and helping those in need, quarantined or people who should not leave their homes, are allowed to move around
  • Living necessities. Movement is permitted for necessary shopping, buying medicines, seeing a doctor, visiting relatives who need looking after and walking the dog

A maximum of two people are allowed to move around together (at a distance of at least 1.5m from each other). This restriction does not apply to families. Only half of the seats can be occupied on public transport vehicles – if there are 70 seats in the vehicle, there can be a maximum of 35 people on board. The new regulations also prohibit any gatherings, meetings or events, except for those with loved ones and religious services. A mass or other religious rite (such as a church funeral) cannot be attended by more than five people at the same time – excluding the ministers taking the service. From April 12th until further notice – by 50 people in total.

Restrictions on the number of people allowed to gather do not apply to workplaces. However, maintaining the distance between employees and the use of disinfectants should be strictly adhered to. All existing bans, including the restrictions on the operation of shopping centres, catering and entertainment activities, remain in force. A mandatory 14-day quarantine for those returning from abroad still applies.
