Poland Bicycles come to Norblin

Technology
The Norblin Factory complex in Warsaw being developed by Capital Park Group through the renovation and conversion of a former metal plating plant is to have an automated bicycle storage centre created by MA-Sistemas, a Spanish company active in Switzerland, Singapore and Israel.

The facility is to use the proprietary Biceberg system, which gives cyclists access to their bikes as well as helmets and other luggage with a smartphone app or magnetic card. The bikes are placed in boxes, which the mechanism automatically moves to store and stack. Bikes can be retrieved in less than 15 seconds.

Automatic underground bicycle parking is our response to one of the challenges that we have faced in our renovation work – limited space. Because old building complexes have their own internal street layout, we want to leave these passageways open for pedestrians. This underground parking system allows us to save space. Outside, there will only be a small docking station visible, which will match the style of the factory buildings, while the entire mechanism and the vehicle storage space will be in the basement.
Kinga Nowakowska, a board member and the operations director of Capital Park Group

The Norblin Factory will include a useable area of over 65,000 sqm, of which 41,000 sqm will be office space. The remaining 24,000 sqm will be used for entertainment, restaurants, service outlets, store and health and fitness centres. The centre will include a seven-screen boutique cinema (3,300 sqm), a foodhall with over 30 vendors (3,200 sqm), a Latino Bar with live music and numerous restaurants. Tenants in the office section will include Allegro.pl (16,200 sqm) and the Global Business Services Center of Japan Tobacco International (8,500 sqm). The centre is scheduled to be completed in mid-2021.

The design is by PRC Architekci, while Warbud is the general contractor.
