Venice and Barcelona are the two most expensive European cities popular among holiday makers. A week’s stay in a double room near Saint Mark’s Square costs almost PLN 5,000 on average. Meanwhile, in the Catalonian capital seven nights costs an average of over PLN 4,300. In Rome one of the most expensive locations is the five-star Palazzo Manfredi hotel, where you have to pay up to PLN 35,800 per week for an apartment. However, rents in this city are very varied and it is possible to find accommodation for app. PLN 1,000 per week. In Croatia the cost fluctuates at just over PLN 4,000 in Dubrovnik, whereas in Greece and Turkey it is possible to spend a week for less than PLN 3,000 (just over PLN 2,000 in some locations). For people who have been spending their holidays in the same place for many years, buying an apartment or even a house could be an interesting alternative. When the owner does not use the property, they can rent it. This can be done via a local company, which will charge around 20–30 pct of the revenue from renting in exchange for finding people to stay there and preparing the property for them as well as looking after it. Out of all the markets, properties in Italy are the most expensive, where a higher standard apartment costs an average of PLN 25,700 per sqm. Almost half as much money needs to be spent on a property in Germany, Spain or Greece. In Croatia, the most popular destination for Poles, a higher standard property costs PLN 8,400 per sqm on average.
