From limbo to samba

I’m usually opposed to making New Year resolutions, having always dismissed them as one of those rituals we only go through because it’s determined by the calendar, which is precisely why we break them almost as much as we make them. But this year I’m making an exception to this self-imposed rule. Why is that, I rhetorically hear you ask? Well, last year was a very strange one – not just for myself, but for some reason also for just about everyone I know

Small talk

Dreaming of high streets

In the wake of the dramatic end to the last year in terms of transactions, we spoke to Monika Kulawińska, the capital markets director and head of retail at CBRE, to find out why this happened – as well as the lastest on REITs and the retail trends

Small talk

A very British journey

Jonathan Cohen, who is well-known on the Warsaw building consultancy scene, has now been appoint head of construction at Polish warehouse developer MDC2. Eurobuild caught up with him for a chat about the reasons why and how he now sees the market

Feature

Looking to the horizon with optimism

What are the prospects for the commercial real estate market in 2025? Which segments are set to prosper and which innovations are going to transform the market? How will sustainable development change the game? We don’t have a crystal ball and we can’t read tea leaves, so we asked a group of experts and market players for their predictions

Retail & leisure

In a thicket of parks

Retail parks are becoming ever more popular – and in Poland this is the retail format that’s growing the fastest. According to Cushman & Wakefield, at the end of Q1 2024, 40 retail centres were under construction, 25 of which were retail parks. Shopping malls are no longer the only show in town, as retail parks have already learned a lot from them

On the rebound

Not much seems to have happened lately in the hotel scene in our part of the world, but it is now exuding more optimism and feels confident of future growth

Living the high life

The tallest residential buildings are distributed fairly evenly around Poland – from the Gulf of Gdańsk to Warsaw, Subcarpathia and Silesia. When scattered around like raisins in a cake, they add to our cityscapes, which are normally dominated by office towers

Sitting on a silver mine

The population of Poland (as well as the rest of Europe) is getting older. According to forecasts provided by Statistics Poland, the population is to shrink from 37.635 mln to 30.9 mln by 2060. This represents a huge challenge for everyone, including for the real estate sector, which is slowly beginning to look at senior housing

The Expert Eye

From words to actions

Companies today are adapting to new realities and requirements related to sustainable development. This also applies to firms in our sector. At LemonTree, 2024 marked our first year of implementing a fully strategic cycle within the sustainable development model. Such an approach is not only a declaration of values but also a foundation for actions that benefit the environment, society, and corporate governance

A chat over coffee about renovation and innovation

The end of the year is an intense time for many sectors of the economy – and it’s no different for the real estate and construction sectors. The last month of the last year began with a business breakfast organised by CFE and Eurobuild Conferences

Not bad – and about to get better

This year’s 30th Eurobuild Annual Conference was held at the Radisson Collection Hotel Warsaw. This anniversary prompted the hosts – the managing editors of ‘Eurobuild CEE’ – to pause for a moment of reflection. After all, some of the guests of the conference were younger than Eurobuild itself!

Endpiece

New year, old calendar

A friend of mine told me recently that it’s not only in January that gyms fill up (as everyone strives to fulfil their New Year’s resolutions), but also in February. This second wave is made up of those who don’t want to fall prey to a sudden urge that’s going to disappear with the coming of the spring (together with the running machine and any other exercise equipment). Regardless of whether you began the New Year by buying nicotine patches, running shoes or an English course, or whether you didn’t give in at all to the pressure of having to make resolutions, all of us in the Eurobuild editorial team wish you a Happy New Year
