One project, three concepts

Architecture and urban planning
POLAND Three companies have revealed their plans for the modernisation of the Warszawa Gdańska railway station in Warsaw.

The companies that have reached this stage of the negotiations with Polish State Railways (PKP) are a consortium of Ymma Holding, Penta Investments and Penta Investments Limited, Ghelamco Poland subsidiary Ghelamco GP 6, and a consortium of Immobel Poland and Immobel. The winner of the tender will sign the contract in Q1 2014. Ymma Holding and its partners have turned to the Epstein Design Studio, which has designed a detached building with an area of 2,400 sqm. An office complex with an area of 83,000 sqm is also to be constructed around it. The buildings would be connected by a public and recreational area. Ghelamco Poland has employed the Sud Architectes architectural studio for the project. The design is for a transport, retail and service centre. A special platform connecting the station with the city gardens is to be built above the railway tracks and platforms, while an office complex has been designed around the station building. Immobel’s consortium intends to build the new station above the railway tracks and connect the platforms via a tunnel to the metro line and a new city square. Simple and economically-shaped commercial buildings will be located on both sides. The combined gla will come to app. 90,000 sqm. Each of the buildings will have underground parking facilities, while additional retail and service space with cafés and canteens are planned on the ground floors.
