Rare, historic Polish railway station renovated

The project’s investor is state-owned PKP (formerly Polish State Railways). The PLN 7.7 mln net development, which embraced external and internal work, was jointly financed by the company and the Polish budget. The aim of the modernisation was to improve the comfort and safety of passengers, but also to return the station building to its former splendor. The newly-renovated station is accessible to the disabled. The façade of the historic, 19th century building was partly reconstructed and entirely renovated. The station halls, ticket offices, toilets and retail space available at the station were modernised. Also, a new visual and audio information system and CCTV were installed. In addition, the roof, the windows, the doors and all internal fixtures were updated. Erected in 1874, the Kostrzyn nad Odrą railway station was originally designed by Eduard Römer. It is one of two Polish railway stations that have two railway lines at different levels. The second one, located in Kępno, was modernized last year.
